A Scottish Hilltop Wedding at Hidden Hollow Farm in Warrenton, VA

~ Morgan & Joey | Wedding ~

Hidden Hollow Farm | Warrenton, Virginia | October 1, 2022

With Hurricane Ian run off headed straight for us, we all held our breath and came up with plan B, C and D for weather contingencies…

We lucked out! Morgan & Joey had a beautiful hilltop wedding at the Farmhouse at Hidden Hollow Farm in the gorgeous town of Warrenton outside, like they were dreaming off. They had a non traditional wedding with nods to their deep Scottish & Nordic roots; complete with hand fasting, tavern style dinner and a druid circle. Joey even deemed the weather typical Scottish weather and felt it was fitting for the day. Greenery and Foliage were super important to Morgan, she wanted everything outside. We lucked out most of the day, the Reception was the only thing that was moved indoors.

One of the bridesmaids got both Morgan and Joey a sentimental gift, that made them both cry (and mama Jessica too).

After getting ready Morgan met Joey outside for their first look and private vow reading. Due to the weather, they were joined by their mothers, Matron of Honor & Best Man. Their vows were full of love and emotion. But, Joey’s reaction to Morgan, had me crying all over again editing. He was so overwhelmed with emotion when he saw his almost wife for the first time.

Aside from the Details, the Portrait Hour is my FAVORITE! Morgan & Joey were no exception! This was my first rainy wedding and I finally got to play with the clear umbrellas. Luckily the rain and wind did stop enough for us to stop using them halfway through. And it held out until after the ceremony. It brought me back to Michael & I’s wedding day. It rained all day… but it held off when it was supposed to. And the old wives tale states that it is a sign of good omen for your marriage.

Joey had both of his parents escort him down the aisle. And the way his mom is looking at him, is a look only a mother can really comprehend. Morgan walked down the aisle with her dad. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and took a seat. Their ceremony was perfectly timed for sunset!

The Scottish Hand-fasting was a very cool and beautiful tradition to witness. The weather was good enough that we could run the drone, and get some cool overhead shots of the fasting of the hands.

They timed the ceremony perfectly to sunset because they had a Druid Circle immediately following the ceremony. And traditionally the Druid Circle would take place at sunset.

After the Druid Circle, they went poolside and had their traditional American first dance. After everyone ate the Tavern style food and grazing tables, there were toasts. The Best Man, Joeys best friend, hands down had the best speech, he was cracking jokes and getting the whole room to light up with laughter. They all called out their Scottish Clans in celebration of two of them uniting as family. They even had us Irish folk (Mostly Michael) call ours out too. Then the Matron of Honor, Morgans sister, brings out this beautiful cake that she made herself. It was beautiful and delicious. The rain was pouring outside at this point so everyone was just mingling and dancing around the farmhouse. We left feeling like part of their clan!

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Lumsden!!!
