Camping in Pittsburgh, PA Recap!

Family Camping Trip to PA | Wanderlust | Personal

Pittsburgh, Bethal Park, Cranberry Township, & Madison, Pennsylvania | April 8 – 10, 2022

Last year I posted a full year travel recap and it was one of my most viewed blogs of 2021. This year I decided I was going to blog each trip, especially because 2022 looks like a HUGE travel year for us; and we couldn’t be happier!! I also wanted to give more time to each place because every place we visit really does deserve their own blog. And I wanted to highlight any local businesses or restaurants that we visit and enjoyed. These recaps are usually longer blog posts, but I try to keep them as short as I can! I hope you enjoy it!

There was no business this trip, just pleasure! Michael and I had been itching to go camping again and we really needed to get away for a weekend. So, I decided to book a cabin at the Madison/S.E.Pittsburgh KOA. Earlier this month Michael, Arielle & I hopped in the Jeep and drove to our cabin in Madison, PA. Michael has a lot of family in the Pittsburgh, PA area. This was also Arielle’s first visit to Pennsylvania and meeting most of the family that live there for the first time too.

We headed up to our campsite late Friday morning and took the scenic route up. We figured with it being springtime it would be a pretty drive up. Arielle slept all the way until we went to Breezewood. We took a break and had some lunch and hit the road again. Once we arrived at the Cabin, we found out someone extended their stay one by one night in the cabin we rented. The KOA upgraded us to a much nicer cabin, with a little kitchenette! Arielle discovered jumping on this trip because of the giant jump pillow near our cabin. She made some friends with some older kids who were always very mindful to “not jump too big near the baby”. We drove around the little town of Madison and Belle Haven and decided to have dinner at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House and then turned in for the evening.

We woke up Saturday morning to a chilly rainy day. Our plan of walking through the city to sight see quickly got changed. Something Michael and I have always wanted to do was go to the Carnegie Science Center, so we made sure it was kid friendly, and it was! We enjoyed our time there for sure! We only saw the first and fourth floors. They were the most geared towards little kids and there was so much to see and so little time! We definitely plan to go back. Arielle really enjoyed the Water Tables on the fourth floor and the rocket launch on the first floor. We did drive around to sight see from the car and I had my camera to take pictures! Pittsburgh reminds me so much of Gotham City (I don’t know why). Then we headed to Primanti Brothers in the Strip District to get a classic Pittsburgh sandwich! When we went to leave, we had to run into a Starbucks because it was HAILING, they were the size of Air Soft balls. Once the weather cleared, we headed up to Bethel Park, PA to see Michael’s Aunt Shannon and some of Arielle’s 2nd cousins! They had so much fun playing together and I am so happy Arielle got to meet her Great Aunt Shannon for the 1st time. On the way back to the cabin, we hit Foxes Pizza for dinner and then called it a night.

Sunday we slept in a little, and checked out of our cabin and then headed to Eat n Park or as Michael calls it Eat n Puke because you eat so much you’ll want puke. After that we drove to Cranberry Township to meet up with more of Michael’s family. They happened to be celebrating Easter while we were up, so they invited us over for an Easter egg hunt, Easter dinner, Easter egg dying, and family time! Arielle has met her Great Aunt Patty and Great Uncle Greg, but she had a lot of cousins to meet, including one much closer to her age! I am so happy she got to meet and play with a lot of her extended family!

We had so much fun this trip! Here are all the highlights from my camera!!! We have a lot of traveling coming up this year, and I can’t wait to recap them here for y’all!
